How to subtract pounds and ounces
  • If the number of ounces being subtracted is greater than the number of ounces in the weight that is being subtracted from, decrease the number of pounds by one and increase the number of ounces by 16 in the weight that is being subtracted from.
  • Subtract the ounces.
  • Subtract the pounds.

Example: Subtract 3 pounds 10 ounces from 6 pounds 8 ounces.
  • The number of ounces being subtracted is larger so adjust the number of ounces:

  • Subtract the ounces:
    24 - 10 = 14 ounces
